Well, I was wrong. He did pretty well considering the difficulty level, but the recommended age should probably be more like 7-8 years and up.There's a lot of small parts that have to be turned just so and in just the right order. It took a few minutes to open it up into Bumblebee; it took me nearly ten minutes to get it back to a car. Completing the car transformation requires the whole thing to be cradled in both hands and squeezed together so that certain pieces will snap into place properly. No way are small hands going to be able to do that, especially with multiple pieces constantly shifting around. (My grandson could only stand back and watch, pretty much defeating the purpose of buying him a transformer toy.) The instructions are worthless; it's all trial and error.
